Are you coming to Sal island and don’t know what to do?
What’s better than enjoying nature in a sporty and active way, sharing time with your family and friends?
Mitu Monteiro had some tips and suggestions for you.
Born and raised in this beautiful place, even though Mitu spent the past years travelling the world due to sporting commitments and competitions, Sal is the only place he calls home.
Like every sea lover, he has a deep connection with Nature.
Here is a list of eco-friendly activities to do while fully respecting the environment.
What else could a Kitesurf World Champion recommend?
Mitu is co-founder of Mitu & Djo Kite School, the watersport centre based on kite beach, only 5 km from Santa Maria.
This is the best place to learn and practice kitesurfing on Sal island, whether you are a beginner or an expert.
Clearwater, constant wind blowing from the northeast with side-on direction and a huge white sandy beach allow you to ride in complete safety.
Last but not least, the best vibes every kiter can desire: many ocean lovers from all over the world meet here to share their passion and motivate each other.
An excellent restaurant is open from 8 am to 7 pm to feed you before and after any session.
The multilingual staff of Mitu & Djo provide lessons in accomplishment with the standard of the International Kiteboarding Association.
If you have kids and want to go kiting..No worries.
They thought about everything. Here there is the only beach kids club on the island with professional babysitters that will take care of your children.

Visit the Botanical Garden
Are you missing some green on this beautiful but deserted island?
Viveiro is the only botanical garden on Sal island, where you can discover the flora and fauna coming from around the Archipelago.
An amazing oasis to relax and unwind in a peaceful atmosphere.
This is the perfect place to become children again, spending the day rolling in the grass and having a picnic with friends or family.
Don’t miss the chance to visit the animal sanctuary: water ponds, donkeys, goats, rabbits, ducks, peacocks and many more are waiting for you to pet and feed them.

If you are looking for an experience that makes you feel free, the excursion on a sailing boat is what you need.
Boarding from Santa Maria peer and enjoy your half or full-day trip to enjoy the Atlantic Ocean.
Get ready to get astonished to meet dolphins, whales, flying fishes, turtles and sharks.
And if there is a special occasion, if you want to celebrate your birthday, make a proposal or simply live a private experience, it’s possible to rent the boat for yourself and customize the trip.
On Sal island, you can find many sailing companies but I want to recommend two of them as they use boats available for small groups and not massive ones.
Cuba Libre Sailing is a family-run business while Cape Verde Sailing is managed by two young guys.
